Dulwich Bakery goes for Guinness gold

Congratulations to Food South Australia member Dulwich Bakery for their attempt on the record for the World’s Biggest Vanilla Slice – or custard slice, as The Guinness Book of Records likes to call it – last Sunday.

While they are still waiting to find out if they have broken the record, the end result was a whopping 791kg of vanilla slice, outgunning the 2014 record of 677kg previously held by The Oven Door Bakery of Horsham in Victoria.

It takes The Guinness Book of Records Office about a week to confirm the results after records of the attempt are submitted.

Some lucky residents near Dulwich Bakery’s Beverley Bakehouse were able to purchase a piece of the giant treat after the bakers were finished last Sunday, but most went to the kids meal program run by Kickstart for Kids, a charity which helps disadvantaged school children in South Australia by providing breakfast and lunch programs and a mentoring program. The team at Dulwich Bakery have set themselves the goal of raising $12,000 for Kickstart for Kids over the coming 12 months.
