South Australian Food Innovation Centre

FUTURE BUSINESS SUCCESS THROUGH INNOVATION AND COLLABORATION

The world is rapidly changing and the food and beverage industry of tomorrow will be very different to the industry of today as consumer demands and technology push businesses to operate as never before. Industry must look towards innovative ways to remain competitive and sustainable in this rapidly changing environment.

To ensure South Australian food and beverage businesses remain at the forefront and continue to grow value added products, research organisations and services providers must evolve the way they respond to, and support, the Industry’s needs for innovative solutions and technical support. As a result, the SA Food Innovation Centre has been established to assist food and beverage businesses find those solutions and support. The Centre will provide collaboration, connectivity and capability that will share R&D innovation and encourage commercialisation of new ideas and products.

THE GOVERNMENT’S COMMITMENT

The South Australian Government recognises the importance of the food and beverage industry to the State’s economic growth, with the food and beverage industry generating revenue of $18.2 billion in 2014-15, with $8.2 billion of this revenue from value added finished food and wine products.

The establishment of the Centre is a direct result of the South Australian State Government’s economic priority, Premium food and wine produced in our clean environment and exported to the world and the commitment to establish the Centre as a key objective of that priority.

DELIVERING THE GOODS

Establishing the Centre was achieved in December 2015, when a unique collaboration of a coalition of industry leaders, state government agencies, universities and research organisations joined together under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as Foundation Partners.

The Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society, Primary Producers SA and the Economic Development Board are also integral supporters and contributors to the collaboration.

The Centre is being established in stages. Currently as a virtual single enquiry point, businesses unsure about what innovation capabilities, technical services, government support programs or business development information or support they need, can be connected with the right partner by contacting the Centre team with one easy phone call or email.
