Outgoing Chair, Anthony Paech of Beerenberg said that Ray is an ideal appointment to the role of Chair for Food South Australia.

“Ray has been an active board member of Food South Australia the past few years and is committed to helping Food South Australia grow as the peak industry body, as well as create opportunities for South Australian food businesses,” said Anthony.

“Having an established and regarded voice on the national and international stage, Ray will continue to build on his strong relationships to help build the South Australian food industry into a sustainable, viable and thriving industry, and as a key focus and a strength of the state,” said Anthony.

Ray has nearly 30 years of experience in the South Australian food industry, establishing Macro Meats Gourmet Game in 1987.

In this time he has grown the business to become the world’s largest producer of human consumption wild game and kangaroo meat and the exclusive supplier of retail kangaroo to Australia’s supermarket chains. The company exports domestically and to 50 countries.

Ray is also President of the Kangaroo Industry Association of Australia and is involved in many consultative boards around Australia involved in kangaroo management, conservation and animal welfare and was recently inducted as an Ambassador for South Australia’s Premium Food and Wine from our Clean Environment priority.

Ray says he strongly believes that South Australia produces the best quality food in the world.

“I am passionate about promoting South Australian food and ensuring the rest of the world recognises our advantages and opportunities,” said Ray.

“Food South Australia’s role in this is vital. I’m looking forward to helping the peak body, as well as the individual members to grow through my role as Chair.”

“My vision is for South Australian food to be regarded as high value products nationally and around the world, and I am keen to help facilitate that through my role with Food South Australia,” said Ray.

Ian Young from MexEx continues as Deputy Chair and Tim Sargent as Treasurer of Food South Australia. Anthony Paech from Beerenberg has retired as Chair, and continues on the board with all other existing members of the board re-elected at the recent AGM.
