Judging is currently underway with the finalists to be announced on 16 October 2013. ALDI are entering the South Australian retail market, aiming to open 50 stores across the state, and are inviting South Australia’s food and grocery industry to find out more and meet with their buyers on 3 October 2013, at the National Wine Centre from 10.30am to 3.00pm. PIRSA is currently calling for Expressions of Interest and applications for regionally-based businesses to access funding through round two of the Regional Development Fund to facilitate the creation of new regional employment and the attraction of new investment for projects. Access to funding of $50,000 – $200,000 is available for eligible projects. Expressions of Interest close 27 September. Additional funding remaining from last year’s allocation is also available, with Expressions of Interest due this Friday 6 September.

Do you have a new idea for a new product, packaging, or food processing? The Innovation Voucher Program (IVP) through DMITRE and DFEEST can help you. The IVP seeks to foster greater innovation in the manufacturing sector, by awarding between $10,000 to $20,000 on a competitive basis to projects designed to enhance the productivity or industry diversification of SMEs. Food and Hotel Asia is the largest and most influential gathering of leading Food and Hospitality industry professionals across Asia today. An Expression of Interest is now open to the companies who may like to attend the event in Singapore from 8 to 11 April 2014.


Food SA is excited to welcome Jessie Morris to the team, job sharing in the role of Digital and Marketing Communications with Nicole Phillips. Jessie has extensive experience, spending the last five years working in PR and marketing agencies with a digital communications focus, including work on website content, community management, social media strategy, professional writing, blogger outreach, traditional public relations, and integrated communications campaigns. Like the rest of the Food SA team, Jessie is a passionate foodie, and will be a positive addition to the SA food industry.

Recently I have been travelling to Fujian Province, Hong Kong and Japan with a delegation led by Minister Gail Gago who, amongst other things, announced the new Premium Food and Wine from our Clean Environment Ambassador Wong Wing Chee at a prestigious lunch in Hong Kong. Key Japanese buyers were also treated to a chance to taste some fine SA foods, with the Minister hosting a lunch in Tokyo amongst other duties.

Food SA member products showcased at the events included Southern Waters Marine Products oysters, Hot Dog Fisheries abalone, AUSSEA MSC Certified king prawns, Kinkawooka blue mussels and Thomas Foods lamb, AUSAB greenlip abalone, Tony’s Tuna International Southern Bluefin tuna, Vitor navel oranges, AlmondCo almond slices, Nippy’s juices, Coopers Brewery beers, Beerenberg jams and Nardone Baker wines.

In addition, the delegation explored commercial opportunities in Fujian Province.
