Awards set to showcase food and beverage industry leadership
7 May 2019
The South Australian food and beverage industry’s prestigious annual awards have been launched for 2019 with a new name and a focus firmly on the future.
The 2019 awards were launched last night as the South Australian Premier’s Food and Beverage Awards, with the theme of ‘Leading the Future’.
Food South Australia CEO Catherine Sayer says the new name recognises the importance of the industry to the state through the Premier’s support, and also marks the rapidly growing contribution to the sector by South Australia’s beverage manufacturers.
“Food South Australia, as the state’s peak body for the industry, manages and hosts the awards,” Ms Sayer said. “We have always done this with funding support from the State Government of South Australia, but we are very pleased to have recognition of the Premier’s support for the industry and the awards through a new name for a new era of the program.”
Ms Sayer said that although the awards have been open to beverage manufacturers for many years, it was also felt that it was high time the importance of the growing number of businesses innovating in this product category received acknowledgement in the awards program name.
Premier Steven Marshall said the South Australian food and beverage industry plays an important role in our state’s economy and has encourage businesses across the state to enter the awards in 2019.
“South Australia’s food and beverage industry is focused on the future by building on its capabilities in innovation, manufacturing and skills,” said Premier Marshall.
“These awards are an opportunity for established industry leaders and emerging leaders to be recognised for their hard work and efforts, and I certainly encourage businesses across the state to enter.”
Ms Sayer said this year’s awards include a new category open to emerging businesses who have been in operation between one and three years and are showing significant potential for growth through their response to a market opportunity.
“Last year, we recognised our emerging leaders through the introduction of the Next Generation Award,” she said. “This year, we continue to emphasise the future by recognising the achievements of the businesses who have seen an opportunity and got some runs on the board with the Emerging Business Award.”
“We have chosen the theme of ‘Leading the Future’ for 2019 because that’s exactly what our industry does, and we’re looking forward to sharing and celebrating the successes of all the businesses who get involved in the awards this year,” Ms Sayer said.
Applications for the 2019 awards opened at 9.00am on Tuesday 7 May 2019 and will close at 5.00pm on Monday 1 July.
