SAPOL has issued a warning about a new scam targeting small business. It’s a simple as a phone call to your business from someone purporting to be one of your suppliers and asking to change account details for payment of an outstanding invoice.
The Office of the Small Business Commissioner’s newsletter shared news last week about one South Australian business hit by the scam to the tune of $1.5m.
Both the Small Business Commissioner and SA Police advice all businesses to check any requested changes by calling your suppliers direct – on the phone number you have for them, not a number supplied by a caller – and reporting any suspicions to the police immediately.
