Southern Bluefin Tuna are ranched in the clean waters of lower Spencer Gulf, located near the regional centre of Port Lincoln, a prime location for ranching tuna due to availability of a skilled workforce, infrastructure and transport networks. Fed a diet of baitfish over a period of 5 to 9 months, maximising the tuna’s colour, texture and flavour. Coupled with swift harvesting and attention to detail over the ranching period, the quality and integrity of this product is maintained to the highest standard.
All Southern Bluefin Tuna ranching companies export their product. They work closely with their overseas agents, visit their markets and welcome buyers to inspect their facilities so that they can deliver to exact customer requirements.
The wild tuna are caught live and then towed carefully to the ranching areas. At all stages of the catching, towing and counting into the farms, the tuna are monitored by scientists and government inspectors. Ranched tuna have a richness in meat colour, texture and high fat content, combining the best qualities of wild and ranched product. The tuna may be purchased frozen or fresh.
