SAFE AND SAVED FOOD BID

Food SA has been actively involved in the design of a Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) on a Safe and Saved Food bid, led by SARDI. The CRC aims to increase food safety and decrease waste in the Australian food chain through several fronts including; consumer education, mapping of waste and costs through supply chains, development of packaging technologies that increase shelf-life and safety of our food products and transformation of waste into value streams. The CRC design also includes a Food Technology Uptake Hub, which will be a one-stop shop for food SMEs looking for solutions for waste management, product development, automation, packaging and consumer/market insights. Food SA will have a key role in engaging the SA food industry and maximising the value for industry members through this Hub. If successful, the Saved and Safe Food CRC will start in July 2015 and will deliver over $2 billion in value to consumers and the industry in its 7 year lifetime. All participants will be required to contribute financially to the initiative. Food SA is working with the CRC group to look at ways to maximise member involvement. Please contact Silvia Estrada-Flores for further details.
