SA FOOD INDUSTRY AWARDS WINNERS REWARDED

Thanks to all 600 guests who attended and supported a magnificent SA Food Industry Awards gala dinner on 29 November at the Adelaide Convention Centre. It was a proud night for the SA food industry and Food SA – we thank each of our sponsors whose contribution makes the Awards program successful. We particularly thank the Government of South Australia for their support and were delighted to hear Minister Gail Gago announce on-going financial support in 2014. Congratulations to all winners and finalists, it was great a trio of celebrations for iconic Robern Menz who were inducted into the Hall of Fame, and won the inaugural Consumer Award and a Leadership Award for CEO Phil Sims. Other winners included Bickford’s Australia, Gelista Premium Gelati, Lifestyle Bakery, Kytons Bakery, Savannah Lamb, Wintulichs, AgriExchange, Macro Meats Gourmet Game, Rohde’s Free Range Eggs and SA Mushrooms. EARLY BIRD SALE FOR THINK FOOD

Think Food, South Australia's only local tradeshow is back on Tuesday 29 April at the Adelaide Festival Centre in 2014 as part of Tasting Australia. Think Food enables you to showcase your products to local, interstate and international buyers including retailers, distributors, purchasing managers, chefs, caterers, tourism operators and more. Think Food provides the opportunity to meet up to 400 invited buyers and media. Early bird registration rates are now available until the end of January, saving $50 off. Register early today!

PROMOTING ADVANCED MANUFACTURING

Food South Australia joined DMITRE and Brand South Australia to promote Advanced Manufacturing to the public in Rundle Mall last week. Food SA members Kytons Bakery Australia, Beerenberg, Nippy's, Spring Gully Foods and Tucker's Natural and Eat Local SA member Talinga Grove provided some tasty treats for the public to sample. The promotion provided an opportunity to connect with the community about the importance of manufacturing and highlight future jobs and skills required in the sector.

FESTIVE TIME WITH FOOD SA

Food SA board, members, team and supporters celebrated the end of another wonderful year at the Food SA Christmas BBQ this week. The BBQ is a highlight event for Food SA with members bringing along staff and family for a relaxing and fun day, including games for the kids and a visit from Santa. We thank members who kindly donated product to share with fellow members; cheeses from TAFE SA Artisan Cheese Making Academy Australia, and B.-d. Farm Paris Creek, sweet treats from Chocolate 5018, Robern Menz, Rinaldi Confectionery, Golden North ice cream and Kytons Bakery, oysters from the SA Oyster Growers Association, meat from Barossa Fine Foods, and drinks from Coopers Brewery and Bickford's Australia.

MEET OUR MEMBER: GELISTA PREMIUM GELATI

At Gelista, we began by making the gelati and ice cream products that chefs wished they had time to make for themselves. We started out producing five litre tubs for fine dining and function and cafes, and then expanded to produce impulse snack products. We now produce over 30 flavours, selling to hospitals, schools, grocers and independent supermarkets.
