SA FOOD INDUSTRY AWARDS FINALISTS REVEALED

Congratulations to all those announced as finalists in the 2013 SA Food Industry Awards, and thank you to everyone who came along to our finalists’ event to help celebrate. It is fantastic to see an increased range of producers being honored this year – we’ve got everything from kangaroo, carob, honey and nuts to lamb, mushrooms, ice cream and crackers highlighting the diversity and strength of our industry. Don’t forget to secure your seat for the Gala Dinner on November 29 where this year’s winners will be announced – tickets available now.

CHEESEFEST

Food SA and Eat Local SA were proud to once again to be involved in the always popular CheeseFest. As well as sponsoring the event, our team was on hand armed with blenders to whip up delicious milkshakes with local milk from The Fleurieu Milk and Yoghurt Company and B.-d. Farm Paris Creek, ice cream from Golden North, milk mixes from Bickford’s Australia, FruChocs from Robern Menz, chocolate and strawberry sauces from Beerenberg and support from the Dairy Australia Legendairy team. Thank you to everyone who made the weekend a success!

SOUTH AUSTRALIAN FOOD USERS’ GUIDE

The South Australian Food Users’ Guide produced by Food SA has been distributed to foodservice, food educators, food retailers and purchasing managers all over Australia, but you can now also download an ebook version for iPad or Kindle for free. Download your copy and spread the word!

NEW FOOD SA BOARD

The Food SA AGM was held on Thursday 31 October. There were 11 nominations for six positions, and the new board is as follows: Anthony Paech, Beerenberg, Ian Young, Mexican Express, Tim Sargent, partner at Hayes Knight, Ray Borda, Macro Meats Gourmet Game, Chris Hummel, Wintulichs, Brian Jeffriess, Australian Southern Bluefin Tuna Industry Association, Dimitrios Kyriazis, Golden North, Tom Pledge, Crawford Legal, Sharon Sutton, Kytons Bakery, George Ujvary, Olga’s Fine Foods, Phil Sims, Robern Menz, Sam Tucker, Tucker’s Natural. We thank outgoing board member Andrew Horwood for his contribution over the past two years.

2013 SOUTH AUSTRALIAN REGIONAL AWARDS

The South Australian Regional Awards are held annually to celebrate and showcase the achievements of individuals, groups and organisations that have made significant contributions to regional South Australia. The program provides a benchmark for excellence by publicly recognising the achievements and success of those who make a difference in the state’s seven regions. We wish to extend congratulations to the Food SA members who were honored as winners in their respective regions: Kangaroo Island Spirits, Wintulichs, The Food Forest, Ferguson Australia, Pangkarra Foods, and Savannah Lamb.

2014 CELLAR DOOR FESTIVAL

Join your food industry peers (B.d. Farm Paris Creek, Steiny’s Traditional Mettwurst, Woodside Cheese Wrights, Red Cacao, Talinga Grove and the Smelly Cheese Shop) as they take part in the multi-award winning Cellar Door Wine Festival – Australia’s most awarded food and wine event! Food SA are currently exploring options for additional opportunities to assist members with trade missions and tradeshows in Asia in 2014.
